Taking Boxing Day Seriously

The Kiwis take Boxing Day seriously. Little known, and barely observed in the US, this day after Christmas is a public holiday and should be taken off by everyone. Commerce remains shut down and everyone gets on with the business of enjoying life.

We’re in the Bay Of Islands and anchored for two nights off Moturua Island – not to be confused with Moturoa or Motuarohia Islands. The locals have been out with all their water toys enjoying the bay, and we’ve broken out the kayaks a few times too. The island is a conservation area with abundant trails through the lush and varied forest. We’ve walked a few and found sufficient cell phone reception from the hilltops to call home and wish everyone a Merry Xmas.
